Siopa Nua Don Bhuailtín

Ar nós bailte beaga eile ar fud na tíre tá Baile an Fheirtearaigh fé bhrú eacnamaíochta agus é ag cailliúint seirbhísí tábhachtacha. Dúnadh an oifig an phoist roinnt mhaith blianta ó shin agus níl aon gharda lán aimseartha i láthair ar an mbaile a thuilleadh. Trí shiopa ar fad a dhún a ndoirse tharais na mblianta chomh maith le siopa a bhí i dTigh Bhric ar an Riasc atá beal dorais leis an mBuailtín. Siopa Gala a bhí ag Muintir Lubhaing agus An Cat Dubh a bhí ag Muintir Uí hUallacháin an dá cheann deireanach a dhún a ndoirse i mbliana. Ainneoin an chomortais os na hollmhargaí móra agus an brú eacnamaíochta atá ar gnónna beaga lasmuigh de na bailte móra tá lanúin óg pósta ag oscailt siopa nua ar an mBuailtín. I sean siopa Louis Mulcahy a lonnófar an siopa seo. Tá Colm agus Nikki O Connor, a muintir is a gcairde ag obair lá is oíche chun an siopa, Siopa an Bhuailtín, a bheith ullamh le hoscailt tús na míosa seo chugainn. Labhramar leo fé’n bhfiontar seo agus an dúshlán atá rompu.

A New Shop For Ballyferriter

Like many other rural towns in Ireland Ballyferriter has witnessed the closure of many essential services. The post office closed it’s door’s many years ago and the garda station has no permanent garda presence. In total 3 shops have closed their doors in the village over the years as did the shop in Bric’s Pub, Riasc which is a stone’s throw from the village. Two of these shops the Gala supermarket run by Muintir Uí Lubhaing  and An Cat Dubh run by Muintir Uí hUallacháin closed at the end of this Summer. However and despite the competition from the larger multiples in Dingle and the economic pressures on small rural businesses a young married couple have decided to take this opportunity to open a new shop in the village. It will be located in the premises once occupied by the Louis Mulcahy Pottery. Colm and Nikki O Connor, their family and friends have been working day night to have the shop ready for the grand opening which they hope to open this Friday.
We talk to them about their new venture and their hopes for the future.
